Jazz Master Residencies bring jazz master artists into Chicago Public School K-12 classrooms for eight sessions.
Monthly Jazz Links Jam Sessions give students the opportunity to perform with world-class professionals in the Jazz Links house band.
The Jazz Institute, in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center, holds the Essentially Ellington/Jazz in the Chi Festival to allow High School Jazz Bands the opportunity to perform and attend clinics, improvisation workshops, and instrumental master classes taught by world renowned jazz artists/educators.
The Jazz Links Student Council gives high school jazz musicians the opportunity to develop musically and professionally through exposure to live music, workshops with professional musicians, and performance opportunities throughout the city.
The Jazz Institute of Chicago presents Jazz Links Fellowship Program (JLF), to be awarded to 2 of the city’s up-and-coming musicians. The program offers opportunities to learn on-the-job with JIC mentors’ guidance, and performance opportunities across the city in communities underserved by the arts.
Straight Ahead Jazz Exchange provides five days of jazz immersion featuring innovative, hands-on sessions led by professional musicians and clinicians.
A unique ensemble comprised of Chicago Public School music teachers.
The Kiewit-Wang Mentorship Award is given to high school students who demonstrate excellence in jazz musicianship. Recipients receive private lessons with a local jazz musician of their choice.
The Women’s Leadership Initiative focuses on dialog, connection, and musical exchange between professional women musicians in Chicago and female students of jazz.
